My heart leaps up when I behold
A Rainbow in the sky - William Wordsworth

Thanks to NyteEnGale, Bible Researcher
Gina will always be loved and missed

The war of my youth was Viet Nam.  My husband was over there for a year and then flew med-evacs back and forth for the next 4 years.  The worst was when they returned home to snears and jears. Some were spit on.   It was heart-breaking and still is.
If you are a Vietnam vet, you will appreciate and understand Gen. Zinni’s presentation. If not, you will never understand us, what we went through and how we lived our lives since. But watching this short video might give you some insight—and appreciation—to who we really are or were. There’s only 1/3 of us left now.

'Heavenly Father, hold our troops in Your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in this our time of need.
These things I humbly ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, Amen.'

Prayers for my friend and long-time Rainbow reader, who has lost her dear Ditto.

Real Hollywood Heros  ~ NOT the Hollywood of today
Alec Guinness (Star Wars) operated a British Royal Navy landing craft on D-Day.

James Doohan ("Scotty" on Star Trek) landed in Normandy with the U. S. Army on D-Day.

Donald Pleasance (The Great Escape) really was an R. A. F. pilot who was shot down,
held prisoner and tortured by the Germans.

David Niven was a Sandhurst graduate and Lt. Colonel of the British Commandos in Normandy.

James Stewart Entered the Army Air Force as a private and worked his way to the rank of Colonel.

During World War II, Stewart served as a bomber pilot, his service record crediting him with leading more than 20 missions over Germany, and taking part in hundreds of air strikes during his tour of duty.

Stewart earned the Air Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross, France's Croix de Guerre, and 7 Battle Stars during World War II.

In peace time, Stewart continued to be an active member of the Air Force as a reservist, reaching the rank of Brigadier General before retiring in the late 1950s.

Clark Gable (Mega-Movie Star when war broke out) Although he was beyond the draft age at the time the U.S. entered WW II, Clark Gable enlisted as a private in the AAF on Aug. 12, 1942 at Los Angeles.
He attended the Officers' CandidateSchool at Miami Beach, Fla. and graduated as a second lieutenant on Oct. 28, 1942.
He then attended aerial gunnery school and in Feb. 1943 he was assigned to the 351st Bomb Group at Polebrook where flew operational missions over Europe in B-17s.
Capt. Gable returned to the U.S. in Oct. 1943 and was relieved from active duty as a major on Jun. 12, 1944 at his own request, since he was over-age for combat.

Charlton Heston was an Army Air Corps Sergeant in Kodiak.

Earnest Borgnine was a U. S. Navy Gunners Mate 1935-1945.

Charles Durning was a U. S. Army Ranger at Normandy earning a Silver Star and awarded the Purple Heart.

Charles Bronson was a tail gunner in the Army Air Corps, more specifically on B-29s in the 20th Air Force out of Guam, Tinian, and Saipan

George C. Scott was a decorated U. S. Marine.

Eddie Albert (Green Acres TV) was awarded a Bronze Star for his heroic action as a U. S. Naval officer aiding Marines at the horrific battle on the island of Tarawa in the Pacific Nov. 1943.

Brian Keith served as a U.S. Marine rear gunner in several actions against the Japanese on Rabal in the Pacific.

Lee Marvin was a U.S. Marine on Saipan during the Marianas campaign when he was wounded earning the Purple Heart.

John Russell: In 1942, he enlisted in the Marine Corps where he received a battlefield commission and was wounded and highly decorated for valor at Guadalcanal.

Robert Ryan was a U. S. Marine who served with the O. S. S. in Yugoslavia.

Tyrone Power (an established movie star when Pearl Harbor was bombed) joined the U.S. Marines, was a pilot flying supplies into, and wounded Marines out of, Iwo Jima and Okinawa.

Audie Murphy, little 5'5" tall 110 pound guy from Texas who played cowboy parts?
Most Decorated serviceman of WWII and earned: Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, 2 Silver Star Medals, Legion of Merit, 2 Bronze Star Medals with "V", 2 Purple Hearts, U.S. Army Outstanding Civilian Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, 2 Distinguished Unit Emblems, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with One Silver Star, Four Bronze Service Stars (representing nine campaigns) and one Bronze Arrowhead (representing assault landing at Sicily and Southern France) World War II Victory Medal Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar, Expert Badge with Bayonet Bar, French Fourragere in Colors of the Croix de Guerre, French Legion of Honor, Grade of Chevalier, French Croix de Guerre With Silver Star, French Croix de Guerre with Palm, Medal of Liberated France, Belgian Croix de Guerre 1940 Palm.

So how do you feel the real heroes of the silver screen acted when compared to the hollywonks today who spray out anti-American drivel as they bite the hand that feeds them? Can you imagine these spoiled, anti-American and entitled people fighting for freedom?
Nor can I

Memorial Day

From Family Corner
Here's a fun project to do with your kids while you teach them about Memorial day

What You Need
a pair of white flip flops
vinyl glue (E6000)
12" red ribbon remnants of blue and white foamie sheets
Cover table with newspaper, a plastic table cloth, or even an old shower curtain.

Gather supplies and have everything ready at the work table and within reach.

Cut foam into star shapes. Cut a piece of white foam to cover the clear top pieces of the flip flops. If your flip flops have white bands you can eliminate this step.

Now you are ready to begin making your flip flops...
Glue the v-shaped white strip with blue stars to the v-shaped clear tops of the flip flops. Secure with clothespins to hold in place while the glue dries.

For the other flip flop, glue the v-shaped white foam on to the clear tops of the flip flop first.

Wrap the red ribbon around the white tops creating a striped affect, gluing down as you go.

Secure the ribbon with clothespins to hold in place while the glue dries.

Battle of the Bulge.. Yes, John....My John was taken as a POW of the Germans during that time... I cannot explain what all of our families went through the rest of his life... I know he may have had problems before he served .. After he got home.. even his dreams were real to him... states of depression and euphoria followed to the end of his life... May he rest in peace now... Thank you for the pictures and WebPages .. As we go on we will never forget the wars... and hope for peace of the world soon...

Paula Deen's Memorial Day Corn Dogs
Makes 12 Corn Dogs

1/4 cup cornstarch
1 (16-ounce) package all-beef hot dogs
12 wooden skewers or lollipop sticks
1 1/2 cups self-rising cornmeal mix
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 3/4 cups buttermilk
Vegetable oil for frying

In a shallow dish, place cornstarch. Thread hot dogs onto wooden skewers. Dredge hot dogs in cornstarch, gently tapping off excess.

In a large bowl, combine cornmeal mix, flour, sugar, and salt. Add buttermilk, whisking until smooth.

In a large Dutch oven, pour oil to a depth of 4 inches; heat to 360°.

Holding the ends of the skewers, dip hot dogs completely in cornmeal batter, letting excess drip off. Carefully place battered hot dogs into hot oil. Fry for 2 to 3 minutes or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Serve immediately.

Give me the grace to see a joke,
To get some humor out of life,
And to pass it on to other folks.

Here is a timeline of my Ultimate Memorial Day Barbecue, a barbecue that honors the "true military meaning" of the Memorial Day holiday.

12 NOON 4 men carry the grill to the backyard. The grill is draped in the American Flag.

12:15 PM Before the official start of the barbecue,  God Bless America is played on the bugle.

12:19 PM The first hamburger is dropped by parachute from a remote control airplane flying overhead. It safely floats down onto the grill. At the sound of the 1st sizzle, everyone cheers!!!

12:20 PM I am manning the BBQ dressed in full military regalia with a chef's hat. And before you bring me your plate, you must salute.

12:45 PM The ladies brings out an American flag made out of Watermelon and Blueberries!

12:46 PM Learn that watermelon and blueberries don't grill very well.

1:25 PM My wife is making me serve vegetables. Fine! But she never said they had to be on a plate!

1:27 PM I shoot broccoli out of a machine gun.

2:43 PM A man costumed as Uncle Sam keeps things moving by going around saying things like: "Uncle Sam Wants You... to fetch more hot dogs from the fridge."

2:47 PM wife  asks me to put her soy burger on the grill. I smile.

2:48 PM wife turns her back.

2:48 and 2 seconds PM I drop the soy burger in the trash. "AIN'T NO SOY BURGER GONNA TOUCH MY GRILL, WOMAN!!!," I shout in my imagination.

3:00 PM Time to remember those who gave their lives in the great wars. So let's do that by drinking beer. Meaningful beer.

To remember World War II:

1- Wash down a polish sausage with Beck's beer. This is to remember when Germany savagely attacked Poland.

2- Now eat some really crappy food with some warm beer. That's to honor the British contribution to World War II.

3- To honor the contribution of France, eat chicken.

3:32 PM You're standing around minding your own business... and bang!
Someone hits you over the head with a bottle of Sapporo Japanese beer! That's it! Now you drink Budweiser with Gusto

3:40 PM Now we remember the Vietnam War:

Drink Agent Orange Soda.

3:42 PM Now I'm behind my grill dressed as Rambo. I cut up the carrots with a machete while yelling: "Vegetables are for commies!!!"

4:00 PM Now we remember the Iraqi War:

We smoke baby back ribs to celebrate smoking Saddam out of his hole.

4:22 PM A fat guy has food all over his shirt. Someone shouts, "Look everybody! Is that corn on the cob or corn on the slob?!" Everybody laughs.

5:00 PM Time to play MEMORIAL DAY GAMES! We Re-enact the War of 1812! We use Grandma's pie as cannonballs.

5:01 Learn that Grandma's pie doesn't grill very well.

6:32 PM There's a piece of chicken missing from the table! Who did it?! Was it you, dog? Was it you?!

6:35 Everybody sits down to eat and thanks God we are  Americans living in the home of the brave and the free.
