My children signed me up for Facebook and bought me a tablet to use when I am in the doctor's office etc.
They want me to have an iPhone but my little pre-paid cell phone suits me just fine.
The last gadget they bought me is a Fit Bit. For some reason, I am supposed to go online and tell some perfect stranger my weight, height, age and several other extremely personal pieces of information my husband doesn't even know. Then I wear this thing and it registers every step I take plus my breathing and gives me a report online. Really? I washed it the other day in a pair of pants but it lived. You can't kill these things, I'm telling you. So this story below strikes a chord in me and probably every other person over 60... smile.

"When I bought my Blackberry, I thought about the 30-year business I ran with 1800 employees, all without a cell phone that plays music, takes videos, pictures and communicates with Face book and Twitter. I signed up under duress for Twitter and Face book, so my seven kids, their spouses, my 13 grand kids and 2 great grand kids could communicate with me in the modern way. I figured I could handle something as simple as Twitter with only 140 characters of space.
My phone was beeping every three minutes with the details of everything except the bowel movements of the entire next generation. I am not ready to live like this. I keep my cell phone in the garage in my golf bag.
The kids bought me a GPS for my last birthday because they say I get lost every now and then going over to the grocery store or library. I keep that in a box under my tool bench with the Blue tooth [it's red] phone I am supposed to use when I drive. I wore it once and was standing in line at Barnes and Noble, talking to my wife and everyone in the nearest 50 yards was glaring at me. I had to take my hearing aid out to use it, and I got a little loud.
I mean the GPS looked pretty smart on my dash board, but the lady inside that gadget was the most annoying, rudest person I had run into in a long time. Every 10 minutes, she would sarcastically say, "Re-calc-u-lating." You would think that she could be nicer. It was like she could barely tolerate me. She would let go with a deep sigh and then tell me to make a U-turn at the next light. Then, if I made a right turn instead. Well, it was not a good relationship...
When I get really lost now, I call my wife and tell her the name of the cross streets and while she is starting to develop the same tone as Gypsy, the GPS lady, at least she loves me.
To be perfectly frank, I am still trying to learn how to use the cordless phones in our house. We have had them for 4 years, but I still haven't figured out how I lose three phones all at once and have to run around digging under chair cushions, checking bathrooms, and the dirty laundry baskets when the phone rings.
The world is just getting too complex for me. They even mess me up every time I go to the grocery store. You would think they could settle on something themselves but this sudden "Paper or Plastic?" every time I check out just knocks me for a loop. I bought some of those cloth reusable bags to avoid looking confused, but I never remember to take them with me."

We senior citizens don't need any more gadgets. The TV remote and the garage door remote are about all we can handle.

Make your own bug spray ~ Bugs don't have a chance
This potent formula gets rid of spider mites, whiteflies and aphids. In a blender, purée three cloves of garlic and two teaspoons of Tabasco sauce. Add one pint of plain water and two tablespoons of liquid dish detergent. Strain the mixture into a spray bottle and spritz the infected plant’s leaves. When we first get a new plant, we lightly spray it with this formula.

Meatball Recipe From Modern Dog Magazine

These little meatballs are generally a success. They are easy to feed to your dog and don’t require too much chewing. You can give them throughout the day if your pet is only eating a little at a time. They are a little fatty so don’t give them to patients suffering from pancreatic or gastrointestinal disease.
Suitable for: dog, cat, ferret, turtle, lizard, human

Preparation time
Medium: 15–45 minutes

½ cup (125 g) cooked meat (yesterday’s roast, without the bones, works well)
Chopped parsley and sage
½ cup (125 ml) stock
2 Tbsp (30 g) flour 4 Tbsp (60 g) dried breadcrumbs
1 egg
Extra flour
1 Tbsp (14 g) olive oil

Mince the meat finely. Mix in saucepan with flour, herbs, and stock. Stir over medium heat until thick. Allow to cool, then form teaspoon-sized amounts into balls. Roll in flour. Dip into the beaten egg. Roll in breadcrumbs. Fry in a little olive oil.

Serve When cooled.

Crunchy Tuna Cat Treats from FelineWebWorld

Makes about 3 dozen treats

1 (5 ounce) can tuna, no salt added and packed in water, drained
1 cup oat flour*
1 large egg
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 heaping tablespoon dried catnip
*It’s easy to make your own oat flour. Simply grind old-fashioned oats in a spice grinder (or a super clean coffee grinder) until it is transformed into a light powder. There you have it — oat flour!

1. Place a rack in the upper third of the oven and preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
2. In the bowl of a food processor fitted with a blade attachment, combine drained tuna, oat flour, egg, olive oil and catnip. Blend until mixture is smooth. It will be thick but pliable and not terribly sticky.
3. Roll dough into 1/2 teaspoon balls and place on prepared cookie sheet. Use a skewer to press an X-shape into each cookie ball.
4. Bake cookies for 10 to 12 minutes until they are dried on top and slightly browned. Allow to cool completely before offering to your kitty.
5. Place treats in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to seven days.

All this time, I thought this was Billy Graham's prayer. It isn't.
Billy Graham's Prayer for Our Nation

'Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your Forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word Says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have Done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We Have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded Laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it Choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable... We have Neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem. We Have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbor's Possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity And pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the Time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search Us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from sin and Set us free.
In Jesus name, amen!' With the Lord's help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and Wholeheartedly become our desire so that we once again can be called 'One Nation under God!'
